Report: Bayern Munich said to have won the race for rumoured Tottenham target

German news outlet Bild are reporting that Bayern Munich have won the race for Schalke goalkeeper Alexander Nubel, who has also been linked with a move to Spurs.

The report claims that Nubel will sign a five-year contract with the Bavarian giants at the end of the current campaign.

Schalke confirmed yesterday through an official announcement that the 23-year-old will not be signing a new deal with the club and will be leaving at the end of the season when his contract runs out.

Tottenham were one of the sides said to be tracking the German stopper closely with European football expert Kevin Hatchard insisting last month that the Lilywhites wanted to bring him to the Premier League (talkSPORT).

However, it now appears based on the reports emerging from Germany that Bayern have won the race for the young goalkeeper.

Tottenham clearly need to sign a long term replacement for Lloris and Nubel would have been the perfect fit given his age and the promise he has shown. However, it was predictable that he, like so many other promising young German stars, would end up getting his move to Bayern.
