Report: Bayern pull out of race for Spurs target – They want Harry Kane-type instead

Bild have revealed that Bayern Munich are expected to pull out of the race for Tottenham Hotspur target Marcus Thuram.

Thuram is one of the most sought-after attackers across Europe ahead of the January transfer window, not only because of his numbers in front of goal this season but also because of the fact that his contract runs out next summer (Transfermarkt).

Some reports over recent weeks have indicated that Borussia Monchengladbach are expected to sell the 25-year-old for just €10m (£8.6m) in January (Nicolo Schira).

Gazzetta (17/11/22 via Sport Witness) reported last month that Tottenham are facing competition from the likes of Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Inter Milan and Marseille for the 25-year-old’s signature while it has emerged more recently that Newcastle United are also set to enter the race for the winger (GiveMeSport).

If Bild’s latest update is to be believed, Spurs will have only less club to worry about in their pursuit of Thuram, with Bayern no longer thought to view the Frenchman as a target.

The report explains that the Bundesliga giants have decided that the Gladbach star does not fit the profile of striker that they need.

Interestingly, it is revealed that Julian Nagelsmann’s side want a player in more of a typical number nine mould like Spurs’ Harry Kane. However, Bild state that the Bundesliga giants’ hierarchy are aware that signing the Tottenham man would be ‘difficult’.

Spurs Web Opinion

Thuram can play across the front three but I do not think he fits the profile of attacker that Conte is likely to want in January as the Frenchman is not too dissimilar to either Richarlison or Son. I am convinced that the Spurs boss would want someone who is comfortable playing on the right and is good at carrying the ball as a potential backup to Kulusevski.
