Report: Bentancur injury could impact Spurs transfer decision on two midfielders

Tottenham Hotspur may be forced to turn down January offers for midfielders Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp after Rodrigo Bentancur was ruled out until February.

Spurs received a major blow when the results of Bentancur’s scan came back on Tuesday, with the midfielder found to have torn a ligament in his ankle, which is expected to be out of action at least until February (Football.London).

This comes as a massive set-back to the 26-year-old, who only recently recovered from an ACL injury, as well as for Ange Postecoglou, given Tottenham’s bloated injury list.

Bentancur injury means Spurs need Hojbjerg

The Telegraph have now explained that the development could force Tottenham to reconsider their transfer stance on Hojbjerg and Skipp.

It is explained that with Bentancur out for ten weeks, with James Maddison out until January, and with Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr not available during AFCON, Spurs may not be able to risk allowing either the Dane or the Englishman to leave.

The report adds that even though Hojbjerg is of interest to the likes of Juventus, Atletico Madrid and Ajax ahead of January, Postecoglou’s men could decide to hang on to the 28-year-old until next summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

It would not make any sense for Spurs to consider offloading the likes of Hojbjerg, Skipp and Lo Celso in January. Postecoglou is going to need all the bodies he can muster to help us get through the next couple of months.
