Report: Bid tabled; The latest in Tottenham’s quest for central midfielders

If reports are to be believed Tottenham are set to invest considerably in the summer transfer window (Daily Mail), as they go about rebuilding their squad after two transfer windows of complete inactivity.

One area of the squad that needs addressing more than any other is central midfield. The team has been short of players in the area since the departure of Mousa Dembele in January.

Due to Eric Dier’s and Victor Wanyama’s injury problems this season, Pochettino had to rely on Moussa Sissoko and Harry Winks to start most games.

Based on the reports in the press so far it looks like Tottenham are tracking several options this window.

Spurs are said to be interested in Youri Tielemans but will have to fight off interest from Manchester United and Leicester City for the Belgian (Sky Sports).

Tottenham were closely following Jack Grealish last summer but the 23-year-old now stands a shot at being promoted back to the Premier League with Aston Villa, and also reportedly has a £60million buy-out clause (The Mirror).

Tottenham meanwhile are said to be one of four clubs along with Juventus, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain to have tabled an offer for Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele (Le10 Sport)

The one that appears closest at the moment based on reports is a deal for Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes. There were reports suggesting that the midfielder was keen on a move to Spurs and now The Sun have reported that Spurs have tabled a £35m offer for the Barcelona midfielder, which the Catalan club are likely to accept.

The positions that are most important to address are central midfield and full back, and so it looks like the club is prioritizing those positions.

While it is too soon to say until a player puts pen to paper, it looks like Spurs have decided to act early in the market for once.

Andre Gomes will certainly be a valuable addition to the squad if the deal goes through, and will provide good competition for Harry Winks.
