Report: Big Clement Lenglet transfer development amid Spurs return rumours

The Athletic have revealed that rumoured Tottenham target Clement Lenglet is now close to completing a switch to Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr.

It has been widely reported over the past few weeks that while Spurs had agreed to personal terms with Lenglet ahead of a potential permanent switch to North London, the Premier League side are far from reaching an agreement with Barcelona on a transfer fee for the player.

The latest to report that was Sport, who claimed a couple of days ago that amidst the deadlock in the negotiations with Tottenham, Barca had offered the centre-back to other clubs and were even considering loaning him out.

The publication stated that the Catalan club were keen to get the Frenchman’s salary off their wage bill swiftly, and it now appears as if they are about to get their wish.

Lenglet close to Al-Nassr move instead of Tottenham

That is because, according to The Atheltic, the centre-back now edging closer to Al-Nassr, with the move to the Saudi Pro League club said to be ‘appearing likely’ for the player.

It is alleged that Lenglet has been on the Riyadh-based club’s shortlist for quite a while and the 28-year-old now looks set to join the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo in the Saudi capital.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think many Spurs fans would be too disappointed with his development as Lenglet certainly did not pull up any trees during his loan spell at the club last season.

However, I do wonder if this changes Tottenham’s plans regarding which centre-back to prioritise over the coming weeks, with Posteocglou potentially also needing someone to cover for Van de Ven at left centre-back.
