Report: Big-name club backed to try and sign Emerson Royal from Spurs in 2023

The print edition of Tuttosport (14/12/22 as relayed by Sport Witness) has revealed that Inter Milan failed in a pursuit of Emerson Royal in the past, but the Serie A club are set to reignite their interest in the Tottenham man in the summer.

Royal has struggled to adapt to the demands of the right wing-back role since Antonio Conte arrived at Spurs 12 months ago.

90 min reported almost a month ago that Spurs would be open to cashing in on the Brazilian in January, with the North London club allegedly intent on ‘overhauling’ their options at right wing-back.

Inter have been mooted as a potential destination for Emerson with TMW reporting two weeks ago that Simone Inzaghi’s men are exploring a move for the Spurs man, who they have identified as the man to replace Denzel Dumfries if the Dutchman leaves the San Siro in January.

Tuttosport have now baked up Inter’s interest in Emerson, stating that the 23-year-old has been a long-term target for the Serie A club. It is alleged that the Nerazzurri explored a deal for the former Real Betis man before they signed Dumfries in the summer of 2021.

The publication asserts that Conte has reservations about Emerson and that Tottenham ‘probably wouldn’t say no’ if they receive the ‘right offer’ for the right-back in January, provided they can secure a replacement.

Spurs Web Opinion

Emerson looks far more likely to leave Spurs than Doherty, not only because the latter is a better fit for the wing-back role but also because the Brazilian is likely to attract more interest from European clubs. I would not be surprised if other clubs join Inter in the race for the 23-year-old ahead of January.
