The Times have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are now edging closer to agreeing to a £50m deal with Nottingham Forest for Brennan Johnson.

On Sunday, Alasdair Gold revealed that Ange Postecoglou has made Johnson his top attacking target, with the Australian said to view the youngster as a ‘perfect fit’ for his system.

It has now emerged that Spurs are taking concrete steps to bring the 22-year-old through the door at Hotspur way before Friday night’s transfer deadline.

The Times state that amidst the negotiations between Spurs and Forest, the latter are confident that the North London club will reach their valuation of £50m for the attacking midfielder.

It is asserted that the talks over Johnson are now ‘progressing’, with hope that a deal can be struck before the deadline.

The report adds that there is also the potential of some Tottenham players heading to the City Ground as part of the deal, with Davinson Sanchez being one of those under consideration.

Finally, the publication adds that despite also attracting interest from Brentford, the Forest star prefers to join the Lilywhites.

Spurs Web Opinion

The negativity from Spurs fans on social media towards this deal is very surprising to me. Johnson might not stand out in YouTube compilations for his dribbling but he has all the raw materials to be a top player.

The 22-year-old has an excellent engine, is a very good presser, always has a clear idea of what is around him even when he is running with the ball, is obviously no slouch in one vs one situations, and his finishing/ball striking is top notch. I can certainly see why Postecoglou rates him highly.
