The Athletic have handed Tottenham a potential boost in their pursuit of Eberechi Eze by revealing that the Crystal Palace star’s contract contains a release clause.

A whole host of outlets have linked Eze with a move to Spurs over the past month and the speculation appears to be intensifying as we edge closer to the summer transfer window.
Tottenham have been linked with Eberechi Eze
Last week, The Daily Mail reporter Josh Hughes told The Spurs Chat Podcast that a deal for the 25-year-old might not be difficult for Spurs to complete, given the good relationship that the North London club have with CAA Base, who represent the player.
Earlier this month, Football Transfers claimed that the attacking midfielder has a ‘gentlemen’s agreement’ in place with the Eagles that allows him to leave the club this summer.

The report further added that Tottenham are in the ‘driver’s seat’ to land the England international and are expected to start talks over a deal soon.
If The Athletic’s latest update is to be believed, Eze does not only have a verbal agreement with Palace but there is actually an official release clause in his contract.
The report says that while Oliver Glasner’s side are not actively looking to sell their star man, they would be helpless to stop him from leaving if the clause is met but the publication does not reveal what the value of the clause is.

Eze particularly looked impressive following Glasner’s appointment and helped them to win six of their final seven games, scoring five goals and two assists during that run which has seen him selected for England’s Euro 2024 squad ahead of James Maddison.
There is rarely such a lack of clarity when it comes to the existence of a release clause, which is usually made public by the player’s representatives.
We will likely find out the truth regarding this matter over the coming days and weeks.
