Report: Blackburn Rovers take Tottenham academy youngster on trial

According to a report from The 72, Blackburn Rovers have taken Tottenham Hotspur youngster Thomas Bloxham on trial, after the player was told he can find a new club by Spurs.

Bloxham came through the Tottenham academy and is technically still part of the U18 set-up at Hotspur Way. The Irishman has 31 appearances for the youth team at Spurs and has six goals to his name there (Transfermarkt).

However, the 17-year-old was told back in November 2022 that he is free to look for a new club and is allowed to leave Spurs when he gets the chance (Football Insider). The left winger was midway through the second season of a two-year scholarship with the North London side.

Unfortunately, Bloxham has been told he will not be getting a professional contract from Spurs and should look elsewhere. That’s where Blackburn Rovers come in.

Bloxham joined the Championship side on trial recently and has made two appearances for the Lancashire club’s youth team so far (Transfermarkt).

He played 75 minutes for the Blackburn Rovers U21 side last night in a 4-2 defeat at the hands of the Brighton development team. Bloxham played on the right wing in the game as opposed to his favoured left side, before making way with the score at 3-1.

It remains to be seen whether the young talent can do enough to secure his place at Ewood Park, but the fact he is turning out for the U21 side at the age of 17 bodes well for his future.

Spurs Web Opinion

No one wants to see a young player cast aside with no prospect of making it in the game, but that is the cruel nature of football sadly.

Fortunately, it sounds like Bloxham might have landed on his feet at Blackburn Rovers and hopefully, he can press on and do enough to impress them up there to land a permanent deal.
