Report: Blow for Spurs and Arsenal as target is expected to sign a new contract

Transfer insider Graeme Bailey has revealed on TBR Football that Newcastle United are confident that rumoured Tottenham target Alexander Isak will pen a new contract at the club.

Tottenham are thought to be on the lookout for a marquee number nine this summer, with various outlets claiming over recent weeks that Isak is one of the names on the club’s radar (Football Insider).

Last month, The Sun stated that Newcastle might have to sacrifice the centre-forward this summer, given their FFP issues and suggested that they are bracing themselves for offers from both Spurs and Arsenal for their star mam.

However, Eddie How has ruled out the sale of the Sweden international, insisting that he expects the striker to still be at the club next season (Fabrizio Romano).

Newcastle now confident Isak will commit

Bailey has now said on TBR Football that the Magpies expect Isak to soon put pen to paper on a new deal at St James’ Park.

The report says that Newcastle are keen to keep hold of the centre-forward and are ready to make him the highest-paid player in the club’s history.

The publication adds that Isak’s representatives are pushing for a release clause to be inserted in the deal but there is thought to be confidence that an agreement would be reached.

Tottenham tend to do their shopping in the £30m-£60m range rather than in the £80m-£100m range, which is why Isak was always going to be out of the North London club’s reach irrespective of whether he pens a new deal at Newcastle.
