Report: Both Spurs and Arsenal working on deals to sign prolific forward

According to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport (17/11/22 as relayed by Sport Witness), Tottenham Hotspur face competition from Arsenal for Borussia Monchengladbach’s Marcus Thuram in January.

Thuram has been in excellent form this season, having found the back of the net on 13 occasions so far but his future is up in the air, with the forward’s current deal at Borussia Park running out at the end of the season (Transfermarkt).

90 min reported earlier this week that Antonio Conte is keen on signing an attacker in January, with the Lilywhites said to have identified the Gladbach star as a potential option.

Tuttosport (15/11/22 as relayed by Calciomercato.it) subsequently claimed a couple of days ago that Thuram is also of interest to Juventus and Inter Milan, but the report added that Tottenham could ‘blitz’ both clubs.

Gazzetta have now revealed that it is not just Spurs who are ‘working on the operation’ to sign the 25-year-old but also their North London rivals.

The report states that Gladbach would be ready to sell Thuram for €10m (£8.7m) in January to avoid losing him for free next summer but it is suggested that the club’s asking price could increase if the France international does well at the World Cup.

Gazzetta add that apart from the aforementioned clubs, Bayern Munich and Marseille are also eyeing a move for the forward in January.

Spurs Web Opinion

The competition for Thuram’s signature is going to be quite fierce, given that he is likely to be available for a cut-price deal. I just wonder if the Frenchman will be put off by the fact that he would have to accept a bit-part role at Tottenham, which might not be the case at some other clubs.
