Report: Bournemouth bracing themselves for bid amidst Spurs interest in star player

Tottenham Hotspur may soon need to find themselves a brand new defensive partnership to name in the heart of their back four under Pochettino.

For years now, the Argentine has relied heavily on the near-telepathic relationship between Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld.

Both experienced players. Have played together for Belgium, Spurs, and Ajax. Jan is left-footed and Toby right. It was the perfect partnership for a number of seasons.

However, both of the Belgian defenders are now well into the final year of their respective contracts at the club, meaning they could leave on free transfers in the summer.

Both will also be able to talk to non-English clubs in January about a pre-contract ahead of a free transfer.

As a result, Spurs may need to line up replacements sooner rather than later, with just Juan Foyth, Davinson Sanchez, Japhet Tanganga, Eric Dier, and Cameron Carter-Vickers left at the club.

The Sun have reported today (17/11 page 67) that Bournemouth are bracing themselves for a bid for Nathan Ake, with Spurs and Man City both said to be interested.

Ake is rated at around £40m, with both Spurs and City said to be looking at moving for someone as early as January.
