Report: Brazilian club have made a move to try and sign Tottenham defender

According to a report from PremierLeagueBrasil, Flamengo have made an approach to sign Tottenham right-back Emerson Royal.

Emerson did not have the easiest of starts to his Spurs career after his switch to the club in the summer of 2022.

In fact, the right-back was a much-derided figure during his first 18 months at the club before he turned his performances around midway into last season and managed to win over the Tottenham faithful.

Although the 24-year-old has fallen behind Pedro Porro in the pecking order for the right-back spot this season, he has proven his versatility over the last couple of months, filling in impressively at centre-back and left-back.

Emerson Royal is a wanted man back in Brazil

PremierLeagueBrasil have now claimed that Flamengo recently made an attempt to bring the Tottenham star back to his native country.

The report states that Emerson is keen on the idea of playing for the Rio de Janeiro club one day, having grown up supporting the side.

However, the Brazilian giants were allegedly put off by Tottenham’s valuation of the player as well as the right-back’s high salary.

The outlet adds that AC Milan also explored a deal for Emerson recently but they too found the cost of the operation to be excessive.

Spurs Web Opinion

Not only are Flamengo not likely to be able to afford a deal for Emerson but I also very much doubt if the 24-year-old would consider returning to Brazilian football at this stage of his career.
