Report: Brazilian linked with Spurs is attracted by prospect of Premier League move

Paris Saint-Germain centre-back Thiago Silva, who is said to be a target for Tottenham Hotspur is said to be keen on joining a Premier League club this summer, according to Goal Brazil.

The centre back’s contract at PSG runs out in the summer and the Ligue 1 giants have confirmed that the long-serving defender will be leaving the club after eight successful seasons in Paris (BBC).

The Sun reported earlier this month that Jose Mourinho is a fan of the experienced defender and is keen on bringing him to Spurs.

Goal Brazil claim that Silva is likely to end up in the Premier League next season due to the fact that he is attracted by the competitiveness of the league.

The report does name Spurs as one of the suitors for the Brazilian international’s signature, although the Lilywhites are said to be competing with Everton and Wolves to sign the central defender.

It is claimed that Silva is not looking to move back to Brazil and believes that playing for a Premier League club will help guarantee his place in the national team for the 2022 World Cup.

Spurs Web Opinion

I can potentially see Jose being interested in bringing Silva in for his experience and winning mentality. However, if his main aim is to remain part of Brazil’s squad, he is going to have to play regularly.

At 35 years of age, I doubt he is going to be a starter for any top Premier League side. A move to a mid-table team like Everton seems more likely for Silva.
