Report: Brentford are becoming resigned to missing out on Christian Eriksen

According to ESPN, Brentford are becoming resigned to missing out on Tottenham target Christian Eriksen this summer.

Eriksen had a transformative effect on Brentford in the second half of the season and the Bees boss Thomas Frank insisted last month that he was hopeful the midfielder would put pen to paper on a long-term contract with the club (TEAMtalk).

Danish Journalist Carsten Werge predicted to Sky Sports a couple of weeks ago that the race for the 30-year-old was between Brentford and Spurs as the player wanted to remain in London.

This week, The Athletic reported that Manchester United had also entered the race for Eriksen, with Erik Ten Hag’s side said to have identified the former Spurs man as an alternative to Frenkie de Jong in case their pursuit of the Barcelona star falls through.

ESPN have now backed up United’s interest in the Dane, stating that the Red Devils are battling Tottenham for the midfielder’s signature.

The report adds that Eriksen is currently on holiday and Brentford are becoming resigned to losing out on him amidst interest from Spurs and United.

If the race has been narrowed down to us and Man Utd, then I fancy our chances of snapping up Eriksen. Not only do we have Champions League football to offer but the Dane also has a connection with the club.

Besides, just like at Spurs, the 30-year-old would not be guaranteed a place in the United’s starting eleven either, with Ten Hag having Bruno Fernandes and Donny van de Beek at his disposal.
