Report: Brentford could move ahead of Spurs to sign Brazil defender

Premier League newcomers Brentford could make a late move to sign rumoured Tottenham target Vanderson from Brazilian side Gremio, according to Goal.

The 20-year-old right-back has been the target of a number of sides across Europe this summer, and now the Bees are keen on acquiring his signature before the deadline.

Gremio recently turned down a loan offer from AC Milan, which led the club’s president Romildo Bolzan to reiterate his desire to keep the Brazilian starlet this season.

Spurs previously held an interest in Vanderson, but saw their efforts knocked back by the Brazilian club’s chiefs.

Goal now report that Brentford are not being put off by Gremio’s stance, and are planning to table a bid worth €15 million (£13m) in the hope that they can sign the full-back before the deadline.

The report adds that Gremio could be tempted to accept the offer from Thomas Frank’s side, but only if they could keep the defender until the end of their league season, which concludes in December.

Vanderson has tallied a total of 42 games for Gremio, scoring four goals in the process.

If Spurs did go ahead with trying to pursue Vanderson, he would be seen as a right-back for the future, given his young age and his inexperience with the style of football in Europe. But, Spurs have all but secured Barcelona right-back Emerson Royal, to fill the gap that was there to be plugged.
