Report: Bryan Gil transfer will not be ‘simple’ this summer

It may seem obvious that Bryan Gil will be leaving Tottenham Hotspur this summer, but a report from Spain has suggested Sevilla are not expecting things to be ‘simple’ when they try to sign the winger in the coming months.

Since joining Spurs in 2021, Gil has struggled for minutes with the Lilywhites, and has spent a large portion of his time out on loan back in Spain.

Tottenham initially signed Gil from Sevilla, and the La Liga side enjoyed a reunion last season when they took the young Spaniard on loan.

The 2023/24 campaign is the first that Gil has completed from start to finish for Spurs, but he only made 12 appearances totalling 233 minutes (Transfermarkt).

Suffice to say, that kind of involvement is not benefiting anyone, and Gil is now expected to be among the players Tottenham make available for transfer this summer (Paul O’Keefe).

Sevilla think Spurs will make things difficult over deal for Gil

Gil is thought to be keen on a return to Spain, in particular Sevilla, and his former club want him back, too. But, they are prepared for a difficult negotiation process with Spurs.

According to Fichajes, Sevilla have “decided to take a step forward” in their pursuit of Gil, but their plan is to take him on loan.

Meanwhile, Vamos mi Sevilla discuss the plan in more detail. Gil “has already decided” he wants a permanent transfer, but Sevilla have contacted him to warn that “a simple negotiation with Tottenham is not expected.”

Sevilla sporting director Víctor Orta has apparently told Gil’s representatives that they will need to “endure the pressure and not despair” as they look to make things happen.

Spurs Web Opinion

I know Gil wants to go back to Sevilla and they are really keen to take him, too, but if they cannot afford a permanent transfer here and now.

We really need to look at other options and so does the player. He can’t just keep getting loaned out, he needs consistency and stability.
