Report: Bundesliga club battling to keep player amidst Spurs and Chelsea interest

The Daily Mail have claimed that RB Leipzig are battling to hold on to Josko Gvardiol amidst interest from both Tottenham and Chelsea.

Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni is reportedly Tottenham’s top target for the left centre-back role but Gvardiol is also thought to be on the North London club’s radar (The Athletic).

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has claimed that a deal for the RB Leipzig man could prove even more difficult for Spurs to pull off than Bastoni since the Croat’s contract at the Red Bull Arena runs until 2026.

He claimed that the Lilywhites might also have to face competition from both Manchester United and Chelsea for the 20-year-old.

If The Mail’s latest update is to be believed, Chelsea have made Gvardiol their top defensive target this summer and are now in pole position ahead of Spurs in the race for the centre-back’s signature.

The reports state that Manchester United have only made ‘tentative enquiries’ into the Croat’s availability.

However, The Mail reveal that Leipzig are ‘digging their heels in’ and are keen to keep hold of Gvardiol despite the growing interest.

Spurs Web Opinion

It does sound like a deal for Gvardiol will prove extremely difficult to pull off. Given his contract situation and Leipzig’s keenness to hold on to him, he will likely prove even more expensive than Bastoni. If Spurs are not able to get the Inter Milan centre-back, they might thus have to turn their attention to Clement Lenglet or Pau Torres.
