Report: Bundesliga club desperate to agree contract with Spurs-linked midfielder

Borussia Monchengladbach are reported to be eager to sort the future of midfielder Denis Zakaria, according to German news outlet Kicker.

Zakaria is out of contract at the Bundesliga outfit is out of contract at the end of the season and has been linked with a move away from the club.

The club’s sporting director Max Ebel revealed last month that they had received ‘a lot of offers’ for the Swiss international over the course of the summer but remained at the club following the closure of the transfer window (Daily Mail).

The 24-year-old was linked with a host of clubs during the summer, including Tottenham who were said to be part of a five-way battle including Arsenal, Everton Roma and Napoli (The Sun).

Gladbach are now desperate to get Zakaria to put pen to paper to stop him from leaving on a free transfer at the end of the season and are planning to contact his agent to get the ball rolling, however, are concerned about how they could finance an improved deal.

Zakaria impressed for Switzerland during Euro 2020 and could be an attractive proposition for many clubs in January, with Gladbach likely to be forced into accepting a cut-price deal rather than lose him for free at the end of the season.
