Report: Bundesliga club set to abandon approach for Spurs target

Tottenham Hotspur may have received a boost in their reported interest in Wolfsburg defender Maxence Lacroix, with Sport Bild now reporting (as relayed by Rayototal) that RB Leipzig could be about to abandon their own pursuit.

Lacroix enjoyed an impressive debut season in German football after making the move to Wolfsburg 12 months ago.

Gianluca di Marzio claimed earlier this week that Spurs were eyeing a move for the Frenchman on the back of his impressive showing in the Bundesliga last season.

Sky Deutschland have since claimed that Fabio Paratici is keen to bring the 21-year-old to Tottenham, with the North London club competing with Leipzig for the youngster’s signature.

However, Sport Bild have now suggested that Leipzig may have been priced out of a move for Lacroix.

While the Wolfsburg star was said to be the first priority for Jesse Marsch’s side, it is asserted they have now identified Arminia Bielefeld’s Amos Pieper as an alternative.

It is also stated that Leipzig are also considering moves for Freiburg’s Nico Schlotterbeck and Celtic’s Kristoffer Ajer.

Spurs Web Opinion

If Lacroix is indeed on Paratici’s radar, he likely ranks fairly low on the Italian’s wishlist, with Spurs said to have launched approaches for the likes of Jules Kounde and Takehiro Tomiyasu over recent days.

It looks like the Spurs managing director is keen to ensure all of the club’s eggs are not in the same basket as far as our centre-back pursuit is concerned.
