Report: Burnley preparing to sign former Spurs academy man on free transfer

According to The Sun, Burnley are preparing to sign former Tottenham Hotspur academy graduate, Nabil Bentaleb on a free transfer this summer.

Bentaleb is currently under contract with Schalke who were recently relegated from the top division in Germany, however, his deal runs out at the end of the campaign.

It is reported that the Algerian is a target of both Burnley and Olympiacos this summer.

Bentaleb missed the vast majority of the 2020/21 season due to disciplinary reasons and then an injury, meaning he has only played 10 times.

It is said that the ex-Spurs man is keen to rebuild his career following a few wayward years, including a rather unsuccessful loan spell with Newcastle United.

Burnley don’t have many foreign players in their squad and, therefore, have plenty of room for some extra signings from across seas this summer.

Bentaleb came through the Spurs academy back in 2013 and went on to feature 66 times for the Lilywhites before being loaned out to Schalke and eventually sold.
