Report: Centre-back allegedly wanted by Conte could be available for just £8.5m

According to the print edition of Sport (21/05/22 – as relayed by Sport Witness), rumoured Tottenham target Clement Lenglet could be available for a cut-price fee this summer.

Signing a left-sided centre-back to compete with Ben Davies is expected to be one of Antonio Conte’s priorities this summer ahead of his first full season in charge of Spurs (The Athletic).

Lenglet is rumoured to be one of the names on the North London club’s radar, with Sport reporting last week that the French international is not in Xavi Hernandez’s plans and Conte had given the green light for the Spurs hierarchy to sign the centre-back.

The same publication now states that Barca believe they will ‘be able to get money’ for Lenglet in the market this summer despite his inconsistency over the last couple of seasons.

The report suggests that the Catalan giants are willing to sell the centre-back, who has four years left on his contract at Camp Nou (Transfermarkt), for a fee of around €10m (£8.4m).

If Barca are willing to sell Lenglet for such a low fee, that suggests they are desperate to get the 26-year-old off their wage bill. I am not convinced that the French international would be an upgrade on Ben Davies, and there is no question that there are better options out there for the left centre-back role.
