Report: Centre-back allegedly wanted by Spurs has agreed to join Dortmund

Sky Sports Germany have revealed Freiburg defender Nico Schlotterbeck, who was rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar, has now agreed to join Borussia Dortmund this summer.

The Athletic reported earlier this month that signing a left-sided centre-back to compete with Ben Davies is Tottenham’s number one priority during this summer’s transfer window.

It was alleged that Schlotterbeck was one of four names at the top of Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici’s wishlist for that position.

However, if Sky Germany’s latest update is to be believed, the Freiburg star looks set to join Dortmund this summer.

The report reveals that the 22-year-old wants to join Marco Rose’s side and has already agreed on a five-year contract worth €4.5m per year (£3.7m) with the club.

It is explained that Dortmund are yet to agree on a transfer fee with Freiburg for the defender with the negotiations still thought to be ongoing.

Freiburg are said to be demanding a fee of more than €20m (£16.6m) for Schlotterbeck but it is stated that the German international is ‘likely’ to complete a move to Signal Iduna Park.

Spurs Web Opinion

Out of the four left centre-back candidates mentioned in Atheltic’s report, I thought Schlotterbeck would represent the best value for money signing, although Bastoni was the option I prefer the most.

It looks like the German is no longer an option for Antonio Conte’s men. The fact that Spurs do not seem to be intervening in Schlotterbeck’s proposed move to Dortmund is perhaps a sign that he is not Conte’s preferred option.
