Report: Centre-back has already agreed personal terms with Spurs amid links

Italian journalist Nicolo Schira has revealed that Piero Hincapie has agreed on personal terms with Tottenham Hotspur ahead of a potential transfer.

Bild reported yesterday that Spurs were keen on bolstering their numbers at centre-back before the window shuts on Tuesday and had pushed ahead with a move for Hincapie.

The publication claimed that the North London club had submitted a verbal offer of €25m (£21.9m) to Bayer Leverkusen for the young defender.

However, Alasdair Gold poured cold water on Tottenham’s pursuit of Hincapie, revealing in his latest column for Football.London that while Spurs hold an interest in the Ecuadorian, a move is only likely in the summer as Leverkusen have no intention of offloading him right now.

If Schira’s latest update is to be believed, Hincapie has already agreed on a five-year contract with Antonio Conte’s side. The Italian journalist explained, however, that Spurs are yet to strike a deal with Leverkusen and remain in talks with the Bundesliga side.

Tottenham’s interest in Hincapie is consistent with the reports we have heard over the last week suggesting that the club will be on the lookout for any late market opportunities. However, it appears quite unlikely that a deal for the 21-year-old will go through before tomorrow’s deadline.
