Report: Centre-back pens new contract after snubbing Tottenham interest

Football Insider reveal that Rico Browne has agreed on the terms of a new contract at Birmingham City after snubbing an approach from Tottenham Hotspur and other Premier League sides.

Although Browne is yet to break into Birmingham’s senior side, he has been thought of quite highly by scouts across the game for a number of years.

The 20-year-old, who joined Rushall Olympic in the National League North on loan in January, has been delivering impressive displays in youth football for a few years now.

The versatile centre-back, who has also sometimes been deployed as a defensive midfielder, was allegedly the subject of interest from Tottenham last summer, with Football Insider reporting a year ago that the Lilywhites were plotting a move for him.

Browne rejects advances from the likes of Spurs

The same outlet have provided an update on the defender’s future, revealing that he has now agreed a new deal to extend his stay at St Andrew’s.

It is claimed that the centre-back had turned down a verbal offer of an 18-month contract by Spurs and he also went on a trial to West Ham.

Additionally, Man Utd were also said to be keeping close tabs on the youngster but he has now decided to commit his future to his boyhood club.

Brownie would have understandably felt that he had a much better chance of getting regular game time in the Championship with Birmingham next season than he would at a Premier League side.

Given that the centre-back has been a long-term target for Tottenham, the North London club will keep a close eye on his progress in the Midlands.
