Report: Centre-back to make decision this week after Spurs and Marseille offers

According to the print edition of Mundo Deportivo (21/06/22 as relayed by Sport Witness), Clement Lenglet will make a decision on his future this week after receiving offers from both Tottenham and Marseille.

Spurs are reportedly in the market for a left centre-back this summer, with Lenglet said to be one of the names on the club’s radar (Football.London).

Esport3 claimed earlier this month that Barcelona have offered the Frenchman to Spurs on loan since they are keen to get the centre-back off their wage bill.

Mundo Deportivo have now revealed that while Barca are willing to loan Lenglet out, they want to send him to a club who will cover the defender’s full salary.

Marseille and Spurs are said to have made offers for the 27-year-old, with Antonio Conte’s reportedly willing to sign the centre-back on a two-year loan deal.

However, it is explained that both the Ligue 1 club and the Premier League side want the Catalan giants to cover a portion of Lenglet’s wages. Capology claim Lenglet earns just short of £100,000 per week.

The report adds that the former Sevilla man plans to meet his agent at the end of this week and assess all the offers he has on the table before making a decision.

Spurs Web Opinion

Fabio Paratici seems to rate Lenglet highly but I would be surprised if the Frenchman is anywhere near the top of Conte’s wishlist for the left centre-back role. I suspect Spurs see the Frenchman as a potential fallback option if a deal one of the likes of Guardiola, Bastoni and Torres fails to materialise.
