Report: Centre-back wanted by Spurs open to West Ham move

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, West Ham United could be set to enter the race for rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Nikola Milenkovic.

Improving the club’s central defence is reportedly one of Tottenham’s priorities during this summer’s transfer window, with Alasdair Gold revealing that the club would ideally like to sign two new central defenders.

Milenkovic is one of the centre-backs rumoured to be on Spurs’ radar, with multiple sources (La Nazione and Fabrizio Romano) backing the North Londoners to potentially make a move for the Fiorentina star.

Tuttosport claimed last week (as relayed by Football Italia) that Tottenham’s new managing director of football, Fabio Paratici, wants to bring the 23-year-old to North London.

However, Gianluca Di Marzio has now explained that Spurs could face competition from the Hammers for the centre-back’s signature.

The report reveals that David Moyes’ side tried to sign Milenkovic last summer and even made an offer of €25m (£21.4m), which was turned down by Fiorentina.

However, the report adds that West Ham’s offer is expected to be lower this summer and that Viola could accept their bid.

It is also asserted that the Serbian international ‘likes’ the idea of moving to the London Stadium.

Spurs Web Opinion

If Milenkovic is at the top of our wishlist, one would assume that we would be able to beat West Ham to his signature. While the 23-year-old ticks a lot of boxes given his age and relatively low cost (due to his contract situation), there is an element of risk involved given the differing demands of central defenders in Italian and English football.
