West Ham United centre-back, Issa Diop, who is reportedly on Tottenham’s radar, has told the Hammers that wants to quit the club this summer, according to a report in TEAMtalk.
Tottenham have been named as favourites to snap up the 23-year-old, and the report even claims that Spurs made an approach for Diop in January.
However, their relegation-threatened London rivals made it clear that they were not willing to let the defender go, given their precarious position in the Premier League.
Despite this, it is suggested that West Ham have now decided to cash in on the Frenchman when the transfer market reopens in the summer.
While Manchester United and Everton are also credited with an interest in the centre half, it is Spurs who are said to be leading the race for Diop.
The report asserts that the Lilywhites view the West Ham star as the ideal replacement for Jan Vertonghen, whose contract with Spurs runs out this summer. West Ham value Diop at £50 million according to a report in the Express.
Spurs Web Opinion
Diop would certainly be a welcome addition to our squad but I doubt us or any other club will be in a position to pay £50 million for him this summer given the current financial uncertainty. While we will have to wait and see how the financial downturn affects the transfer market, anybody who is expecting normal service to resume once the window opens is naive.
