Report: Championship club have turned down an £18.5m offer for Tottenham target

The Athletic have revealed that Crystal Palace have had a £18.5m offer turned down by Blackburn Rovers for rumoured Tottenham target Adam Wharton.

Wharton is making a lot of waves with his performances in the Championship this season and it has been widely reported over the last couple of weeks that Tottenham may turn their attention to the teenager if their pursuit of Conor Gallagher falls through (SportsLens).

Last week, Ben Jacobs told The Spurs Chat Podcast that while the Rovers starlet is on Spurs’ radar, as things stand, it is Crystal Palace who are at the front of the queue to land the 19-year-old.

A couple of days ago, TEAMtalk reported that it is not just Palace who are expected to challenge Spurs for the midfielder but also Newcastle and Everton, who are both allegedly circling over the player.

Crystal Palace have offer turned down for Adam Wharton

According to The Athletic’s latest update, it is the Eagles who made the first move, launching an £18.5m for Wharton.

However, the offer was swiftly sent back by Blackburn, with the Championship club making it clear that they want a higher fee and for the midfielder to remain on loan at Ewood Park until the end of the season.

The report adds that such an arrangement would not suit Palace and it is unclear if Roy Hodgson’s men would return with a second offer for the youngster.

Spurs Web Opinion

With Gallagher now looking likely to remain at Chelsea and with Arthur Vermeeren seemingly on the verge of joining Atletico, I would not be surprised if Spurs launched an offer for Wharton within the next few days.

Unlike Palace, Tottenham might be quite receptive to the idea of loaning the teenager back to Blackburn until the end of the season.
