Report: Spurs said to be keen on soon-to-be out of contract young forward

West Brom wonder kid Rico Richards might have turned 16 just this September but he is already attracting the interest of some of the Premier League’s top clubs including Tottenham, Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool, according to a report by the Express and Star.

The teenager, who can lead the line as well as play out wide, is currently said to be training with the club’s U-23 team with a view to progressing to the senior side.

Richards’ contract with the Championship leaders runs out at the end of the season.

It is claimed that the likes of Spurs want to take advantage of the youngster’s contract situation and are keen on landing him in the summer.

However, knowing well of the interest in Richards, West Brom are reportedly trying to push through a new long term deal for academy star.

While Spurs are short of forwards at the moment having allowed both Fernando Llorente and Vincent Janssen leave in the summer, it is likely that the club are considering at Richards as a future prospect rather than an immediate first-team option.

Spurs Web Opinion

Having not seen Richards play, I do not have a strong opinion on whether this will be a good signing for the club. However, great things are expected off Troy Parrott too and signing Richards could potentially hamper his development given they are around the same age. Hopefully, Parrott will get more opportunities in the second half of the season to show us what he can do.
