Report: Championship star was on Tottenham’s shortlist before Danjuma joined

A new report from The Athletic claims Watford’s Ismaila Sarr was on Tottenham Hotspur’s shortlist of attacking options during the January transfer window before they opted to sign Arnaut Danjuma.

Sarr is one of the brightest stars in the Watford team, and has 31 goals and 22 assists in 116 appearances for the club (Transfermarkt). Although Watford were relegated from the Premier League last season, Sarr impressed many as he bagged five goals in the top flight (Transfermarkt).

Back in December, Sarr was named by Alasdair Gold as one of five attacking players on Spurs’ radar for January, along with Shakhtar Donetsk’s Tete, Atalanta’s Ruslan Malinovskyi, Leicester City’s Harvey Barnes, and Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha (Football.London).

In the end, no move materialised for the Championship forward last month, and he will remain with Watford for the rest of the season.

Spurs ultimately plumped for Arnaut Danjuma instead, in a shocking move towards the end of the window, which saw the player seal a loan move until the end of the season. The deal came just as Danjuma was set to sign for Everton (The Athletic).

Danjuma scored on his debut in the FA Cup against Preston North End at the weekend, so that move already looks to be working out for everyone.

However, it remains to be seen what the future holds for Sarr now. Earlier in January, journalist Pete O’Rourke had told ThisIsFutbol that he thinks the player would ‘jump at the chance’ to join a Premier League club like Spurs.

Spurs Web Opinion

Ismaila Sarr is a good little player and has already proven he can handle himself at the top level in the Premier League. He wouldn’t be at the top of my wish list but he’s a solid talent who I would be happy to see sign for Spurs at some point.
