Report: Chelsea and Bayern set to battle Tottenham for 21-year-old La Liga star

TEAMtalk have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur now have competition to contend with from Chelsea and Bayern Munich for Athletic Bilbao starlet Nico Williams.

It has been reported widely over the last few weeks that Ange Postecoglou’s men are keen on signing a top-quality winger in the summer, with the likes of Wolves’ Pedro Neto and Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze thought to be on the club’s radar (The Independent).

Another player who is rumoured to be on the Lilywhites’ wishlist is Williams, who is having a breakthrough season in San Mames, with six goals and 11 assists across all competitions so far (Transfermarkt).

It was Dean Jones who first revealed in his column on Sports Lens last month that Tottenham are keeping a close eye on the 21-year-old’s development.

Tottenham face competition for Nico Williams

TEAMtalk have backed up the same information, stating that Spurs are particularly attracted to Williams since he has a release clause of £43m in his contract.

However, the outlet goes on to explain that Tottenham are far from alone in their admiration of the Bilbao star, with the race for the winger’s signature now said to be heating up.

It is revealed that Chelsea have been long-term admirers of the Spain international while Bayern have also sent scouts to watch the attacker in action on multiple occasions this season.

Spurs Web Opinion

Given Williams’ modest release clause, there was always going to be plenty of interest in his services. Tottenham would perhaps try and convince the 21-year-old that his development would be best served by moving to North London and playing under Postecoglou.
