Report: Chelsea and Man United are fighting for Spurs-linked right-back

CalcioMercatoWeb.it have claimed that Erik Ten Hag has been an admirer of Tottenham target Denzel Dumfries since the right-back’s days at PSV Eindhoven.

Although Dumfries has blown hot and cold for Inter in the first part of the 2022-23 campaign, the 26-year-old did impress at the World Cup, with three goal contributions across five games in Qatar (Transfermarkt).

Antonio Conte is thought to be prioritising strengthening at right wing-back in January (90 min), with the Inter star reported to be one of the names on the North London club’s radar.

TuttoSport claimed a couple of weeks ago that Spurs were set to battle Chelsea for the Netherlands international’s signature in January.

According to CMW.it’s latest update, Chelsea are now the frontrunners to snap up Dumfries in January.

The report makes no mention of Spurs and suggests that the Blues’ main competition for the Inter star might come from Manchester United, with Ten Hag having admired the wing-back for a long time.

It is asserted that on the back of his performances in Qatar, the Nerazzurri hope to get €50m (£43.6m) for Dumfries in January.

Spurs Web Opinion

I would not be too disappointed if Spurs miss out on Dumfries as I do not believe the Dutchman would be much of an upgrade on Doherty (or potentially even Spence). The Inter star is overvalued at £40m-plus and I would rather see us go all out for Pedro Porro, even though the Spaniard does not have much experience at the highest level.
