Report: Chelsea and Man United could battle Spurs for 27-year-old PL star

The Telegraph have revealed that Chelsea and Manchester United could be set to challenge Tottenham Hotspur in their pursuit of Brentford goalkeeper David Raya.

Multiple publications over recent weeks have backed Spurs to sign a new number one to replace Hugo Lloris next summer (Football.London).

The Daily Mail claimed on Sunday that Antonio Conte’s men are looking for a goalkeeper who is good with the ball at his feet and can make good decisions under pressure, naming Raya as one of the options on the North London club’s wishlist.

Journalist Alex Crook subsequently told GiveMeSport a couple of days ago that the Spaniard would be tempted to make a switch next summer if Tottenham come calling.

However, The Telegraph have now claimed that it is not just Spurs who are eyeing a move for Raya but also Chelsea and Manchester United, who could both be on the lookout for a new number one next summer.

It is alleged that the Brentford star could thus be at the centre of a tug-of-war between three clubs at the end of the season.

The publication adds that the Bees expect to receive a fee of around £15m to £20m for the 27-year-old, who has just 18 months left to run on his contract.

Just like how Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea (and Barca) were battling it out for Richarlison, Gabriel Jesus and Raphinha last summer, it looks like Spurs, Chelsea and Man Utd might be set for a battle for Raya, Jordan Pickford, and potentially Illan Meslier next summer. It will be interesting to see which goalkeeper ends up where.
