Report: Chelsea and Man United looking at 23-year-old linked with Spurs

Relevo have revealed that Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham recently, is also on the radars of both Chelsea and Manchester United.

Over recent months, there has been plenty of speculation regarding who Hugo Lloris’ successor at Spurs will be on the back of the Frenchman’s downturn in form this season.

90 min claimed on Monday that Tottenham have drafted a five-man shortlist to take over duties from the 35-year-old next summer, with Costa alleged to be one of the names included.

The 23-year-old has been in exemplary form between the sticks for Porto over the last 18 months and he started for Portugal in their 3-2 win over Ghana on Thursday.

Relevo state that Costa has a release clause of €75m (£64.5m) in his contract and that super-agent Jorge Mendes has ‘informed’ the Portuguese club that he will bring a ‘very important’ offer for the goalkeeper soon.

Mendes is said to be ‘working on a solution’ and has allegedly already made contact with Chelsea over a deal for Costa, with the 56-year-old agent said to have a good relationship with the Blues hierarchy.

The report adds that Manchester United are also following the situation of the Porto number one from afar.

Spurs Web Opinion

Costa is a very promising young goalkeeper and does not appear to have any weakness in his game (apart from that almost costly blunder against Ghana). So, it is understandable why he is sought-after by top clubs and his stock could rise further if he shines in the World Cup.

However, I wonder if Conte and Paratici would want to err on the side of caution while replacing Lloris by signing a goalkeeper with Premier League experience.
