Report: Chelsea and Spurs battling it out for France Under-21 international

Football Transfers have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea have both held talks over a move for Lyon starlet Rayan Cherki.

Cherki broke into the Lyon side when he was just 16 and has gone on to play 105 times for the club.

The attacking midfielder established himself as a regular in Les Gones’ starting eleven during the latter part of the 2022-23 campaign.

It is revealed that Real Madrid have been ‘long-time admirers’ of the 19-year-old, who has also been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Tottenham and Chelsea both like the look of Cherki

However, according to Football Transfers, it is Spurs and Chelsea who are now pressing ahead with a move for Cherki, whose representatives are now allegedly in London to discuss a potential transfer.

It is explained that Lyon might not be in a position to reject a big fee for the teenager since the Ligue 1 club are under investigation by French football’s financial authorities and have been placed under supervision of both their payroll and their transfer activities.

The publication adds that Chelsea are now ready to test the waters with an opening offer of €40m (£34.4m) for Cherki.

Cherki can not only play as a number eight but can also operate in either flank.

The 19-year-old seems like the perfect profile for Postecoglou but I doubt if Tottenham would be willing to pay £35m for a youngster who remains unproven at the highest level.
