Report: Chelsea are looking at Bayer Leverkusen star linked with Tottenham

The Daily Mirror have revealed that Chelsea have their eye on Tottenham target Piero Hincapie ahead of the January transfer window.

It was reported back in the summer that Tottenham held talks with Hincapie’s representatives (Marcos Duran) but the centre-back ended up staying put at Bayer Leverkusen.

The Express claimed last week that Tottenham and Atletico Madrid were leading the race for the 20-year-old ahead of the January transfer window.

However, according to The Mirror’s latest update, Chelsea’s scouts are also watching Hincapie closely at the World Cup.

The centre-back has put in two solid displays for Ecuador, who have picked up four points from their two group games again Qatar and Netherlands so far.

The report states that Spurs and Arsenal are also ‘monitoring’ Hincapie’s progress while the Blues are eyeing the youngster as a potential long-term replacement for Thiago Silva.

The Mirror assert that Leverkusen are ‘bracing themselves’ for offers for the Ecuador international in January after failing to make it out of the group stages of the Champions League.

Interestingly, Chelsea have also been heavily linked with another one of Tottenham’s centre-back targets in the form of RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol (Tuttosport). So, if Graham Potter’s men decide to make a move for Hincapie instead, that could leave the door open for Spurs to snap up the Croat next summer.
