Report: Chelsea attacker could be tempted to join Spurs in summer because of Conte

Gazzetta dello Sport (as relayed by The Metro) have claimed that a summer transfer to Tottenham is on the cards for Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku.

Lukaku thrived under Antonio Conte at Inter Milan over the last two seasons, with the striker arguably playing the best football of his career under the Italian. The Belgian has not quite hit the ground running after his return to Stamford Bridge in the summer though.

This week, the striker gave a controversial interview in which he admitted he is not happy with the system Thomas Tuchel is currently using at Chelsea.

Lukaku also spoke about how he felt disappointed when Conte left Inter in the summer and admitted that he wants to return to the Nerrazuri during his peak years.

Following the interview, the 28-year-old was dropped from Chelsea’s matchday squad for their 2-2 draw against Liverpool on Sunday.

Gazzetta have now revealed that the most likely outcome for Lukaku is a summer exit from Stamford Bridge. The report claims that the striker could be tempted to reunite with Antonio Conte at Spurs at the end of the season.

Spurs Web Opinion

I suspect Gazzetta might be purely speculating based on Conte’s relationship with Lukaku. I do not see Lukaku wanting to come to Spurs and partner Kane as the Belgian clearly wants to be the main man wherever he is.

Besides, Chelsea do not do business with Tottenham and the Lilywhites are unlikely to be in a position to meet the Blues’ asking price for the 28-year-old.
