Report: Chelsea confident of winning race for Spurs-linked forward

The Times have claimed that Chelsea are now confident of winning the race for Everton winger Anthony Gordon, who is also of interest to Tottenham.

Reports over recent days have indicated that Spurs are expected to sign an attacker to replace Bryan Gil if the Spaniard rejoins Valencia on loan (The Athletic).

Gordon is thought to be one of the options on the North London club’s radar, with Football.London’s Alasdair Gold reporting earlier this week that the Lilywhites are facing competition from the likes of Chelsea, Newcastle United and Manchester United for the 21-year-old.

The journalist added that although Everton were reluctant to let the winger leave earlier in the transfer window, they now need to raise funds in order to make any more signings.

The Times have now claimed that Chelsea believe that they can seal a deal for Gordon over the coming days.

It is revealed that the Blues have had two offers rejected by the Toffees for the youngster over recent days, with the second of those bids thought to be around £45m.

The report explains that Everton value Gordon at a minimum of £50m and that Chelsea’s next offer is expected will include add-ons that would go beyond that figure.

Spurs Web Opinion

I cannot see Spurs spending £50m on someone who would essentially replace Gil and be a bit-part player. Among the attackers we have linked with over recent weeks, Malinovskyi appears to be the most realistic target as the Ukrainian is likely to be inexpensive and accepting of a bit-part role.
