Report: Chelsea could be without two first-team stars for trip to Spurs

The Daily Express have claimed that Chelsea could be without N’Golo Kante and Christian Pulisic for the London derby at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.

Tottenham go into the match against Chelsea as underdogs despite being at home after their humiliating 3-0 loss to Crystal Palace last weekend which brought their promising start to the season to a grinding halt.

The Lilywhites’ showing against Rennes on Thursday was not too encouraging either after Nuno Espirito Santo’s men had to settle for a point in France despite putting out a strong starting eleven.

To make matters worse, Tottenham go into the clash against Chelsea with injury doubts of their own including Eric Dier and Son Heung-min.

In addition, Steven Bergwijn also came off injured against Rennes while Cristian Romero, Davinson Sanchez and Giovani Lo Celso will only return to the UK a day before the London derby.

The Express have now revealed that Chelsea have injury concerns of their own and they could be without Kante and Pulisic.

Despite Thomas Tuchel sounding hopeful earlier this week about Kante’s changes of being available for the Spurs clash, it is explained that the Frenchman faces a race against time to be fit for Sunday.

In addition, the report reveals that the Blues will be without Pulisic, who continues to recover from the ankle injury he picked up during the international break.

The biggest strength of our midfield trio of Dele, Hojbjerg and Skipp, is their athleticism and the distance they cover. That, however, will likely be completely neutralised if Kante plays given his engine and tenacity. So, Tottenham’s chances of getting something from this game will be affected significantly by whether the 30-year-old is available.
