Report: Chelsea could enter race for Spurs’ alleged top centre-back target

According to Sky Germany, Chelsea could enter the race for RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol, who is rumoured to be Tottenham’s top central defensive target this summer.

Spurs are expected to prioritise signing a left-sided centre-back to compete with Ben Davies when the transfer window opens this summer, with Gvardiol reported to be one of the options on the North London club’s radar (The Athletic).

The Daily Mail claimed last month that the Croat has made it to the top of Antonio Conte and Fabio Partici’s wishlist in light of his impressive showings this season.

Sky Germany have now revealed that Chelsea could make a move for Gvardiol, having identified the centre-back as a potential replacement for Antonio Rudiger.

It is asserted that Thomas Tuchel is a big fan of the 20-year-old and would take him at Stamford Bridge ‘immediately if he could get him’.

The report goes on to add that while Gvardiol is happy at Leipzig, Domenico Tedesco’s side would be willing to sell the youngster for the right price.

Gvardiol could prove even more expensive than the likes of Pau Torres and Alessandro Bastoni due to the fact that he is contracted to Leipzig until 2026. One would not expect Spurs to get involved in a bidding war with Chelsea if the Blues do enter the race for the Croat.
