Report: Chelsea could launch big-money bid for Spurs-linked right-wing-back

Sportitalia have claimed that Chelsea appear set to make a big push for Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries, who has also been linked with a move to Tottenham.

It has been well-documented over recent weeks that Tottenham are prioritising strengthening at right wing-back in January, with Sporting Lisbon’s Pedro Porro reported to be at the top of the club’s wish list (Daily Star).

Another name who has been mooted as a potential target for Spurs is Dumfries, with TuttoSport claiming towards the end of November that the Lilywhites are set to battle Chelsea for the Netherlands international’s signature.

CMW.it then reported a couple of weeks ago that the Blues are leading the race for the Inter star, asserting that the Nerazzurri hope to get €50m (£43.6m) for the player in January.

Sportitalia have now claimed that Inter hope to get an even higher fee on the back of Dumfries’ displays at the World Cup, with the Serie A giants allegedly not willing to start negotiating until there is an offer of €60m (£53.1m) on the table.

The publication adds that this fee does not frighten Graham Potter’s men, who are expected to make a ‘concrete attempt’ for the former PSV Eindhoven man over the next few weeks.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think Dumfries is worth anywhere near Inter’s reported valuations. In fact, I have my doubts as to whether the Dutchman would actually be an upgrade over Matt Doherty. Porro would certainly be the more sensible option to go for.
