Report: Chelsea could offer £40m for midfielder allegedly wanted by Conte at Spurs

The Athletic have revealed that rumoured Tottenham target Alexis Mac Allister is now also of interest to Chelsea.

Mac Allister’s stock has skyrocketed on the back of his impressive showing for Argentina at the World Cup, with the Brighton star being one of the most impressive players on show in the final against France.

Multiple publications have reported over recent weeks (L’Interista and CalcioMercatoWeb.it) that Tottenham hold an interest in the 24-year-old, with CMW.it even claiming that Antonio Conte was an admirer of the midfielder even before he hit the limelight in Qatar.

90 min claimed last week that the Seagulls would demand a fee in excess of £50m for the Argentine in January.

The Athletic have now suggested that Roberto De Zerbi’s value Mac Allister at a whopping £60m in light of his showing at the World Cup.

The report adds that Chelsea have identified the World Cup winner as one of three potential options to bolster their midfield, alongside Enzo Fernadez and Jude Bellingham.

However, it is explained that the West London club might not meet Brighton’s asking price as they only value the player at around £35m-£40m.

Spurs Web Opinion

Mac Allister’s value is understandably quite inflated following the World Cup and now would thus not be the right time to buy him as there is little value to be found in the deal. Besides, a central midfielder is not likely to be property for Spurs during this month’s transfer window.
