Report: Chelsea could rival Spurs for prolific striker

Tottenham may face competition from Chelsea and Manchester United to land Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavan (The Sun).

Reports in Uruguay (El Pais) have claimed that Jose Mourinho wants to sign an experienced centre forward to replace the injured Harry Kane and has identified the PSG star as the ideal man to bring in.

The England captain could be out of action for the rest of the season after undergoing surgery to repair the rupture in his hamstring (The Sun).

Cavani has appeared just fourteen times in all competitions for the French champions this season, having scored five times (Transfermarket). It is suggested that PSG are willing to let the 32-year-old leave this month with his contract set to expire in the summer (Daily Mail).

However, a report in The Sun claims that the Lilywhites face stiff competition for Cavani as both Manchester United and Chelsea are also said to be keen on landing the Uruguay international as they seek to bolster their respective attacks and push for a top four finish.

Spurs Web Opinion

Of all the strikers we’ve been linked with, this is perhaps the one that would excite fans the most but it is clear that this is also the most unlikely to happen. I am not convinced that Cavani would join Spurs knowing he might be benched when Harry Kane returns especially as he is likely to have many suitors.
