Report: Chelsea enter the race to sign Spurs target

Tottenham had a pretty productive summer as they managed to get rid of a lot of deadwood and bought in some top players. However, despite the club’s spending spree this summer, there are some areas of the squad where the Lilywhites are short of experience and quality.

Right back is one area where Spurs are short of experience with neither Kyle Walker-Peters nor Juan Foyth having played in a lot of big matches. While Serge Aurier ended up staying at the club, it doesn’t look like Pochettino is convinced about the Ivorian.

Spurs were said to be monitoring OGC Nice full back Youcef Atal in the summer (The Telegraph) but a deal didn’t materialize in the end. Some Spurs fans will be left hoping that the club will return for the pacey youngster in January.

However, a report in The Sun claims that Chelsea have also registered their interest in Atal and will look to sign him in January if they are successful in shortening their transfer ban.

Meanwhile, Calcio Mercato claim that Spanish giants, Valencia are also interested in signing the £35m-rated full back.

While Atal looks like a talented prospect, we need to be patient and let both Foyth and Walker-Peters get some game time under their belt. I believe Foyth has the potential to mature into a top quality right back and signing another defender for big money will not be good for his development.
