Report: Chelsea handed boost in effort to sign Spurs midfielder

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen has been one of the club’s most important players in recent seasons.

The Dane has been a pivotal part of the progress Spurs have made under Mauricio Pochettino.

However, the club and Eriksen’s representatives have so far failed to come to an agreement on a contract extension so far.

With the 26-year-old’s current contract running out in 18-months time, this has opened the door for potential suitors for the midfielder’s signature.

If Spurs are unsuccessful in getting the playmaker to extend his deal before the summer, they will likely be forced to sell him if they are to avoid the risk of allowing him to leave for free in the summer of 2020.

It has been reported for the past few months that Real Madrid were the front-runners for Eriksen’s signature.

However, according to a report in The Sun, Real Madrid have pulled out of the race for the Dane, opening the door for Chelsea to swoop in.

The report also claims that Manchester City are also interested in securing Eriksen’s services, but Chelsea have prioritised his signing as a likely replacement for Eden Hazard, who looks Madrid-bound.
