Report: Chelsea have made opening offer for former Tottenham player

The Daily Mail have claimed that Chelsea have launched an opening offer for Tottenham academy graduate Noni Madueke, who the north London club have also been credited with an interest in bringing back to N17.

Madueke left Spurs to join PSV Eindhoven in 2018 in search of regular first-team football and while it took him until 2020 to make his senior debut for the Eredivisie giants, the winger has not looked back since.

The England Under-21 international registered 15 goal contributions in 35 appearances across 2021-22 (Transfermarkt) but has not been able to build on that this campaign, having spent a significant chunk of the campaign sidelined with an ankle injury.

90 min reported last summer that Tottenham were exploring the possibility of bringing the 20-year-old back to the club but the attacker stayed put at the Philips Stadion.

Chelsea’s interest in Madueke first came to light earlier this week when Voetbal International reported that the Blues are keen on bolstering their attacking ranks with a move for the youngster.

The Stamford Bridge outfit’s interest in the former Spurs man has now been backed up by The Mail, who suggest that Chelsea have submitted an opening offer of £26.5m for the attacker.

The publication explains that Madueke is well known to Graham Potter and the recruitment staff who have followed him to Chelsea from Brighton, with the Seagulls alleged to have tried to sign the PSV star last summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

Madueke was extremely impressive for a year and a bit after breaking into the PSV’s senior side but his performances have levelled off since and he has not been at his best since returning from his ankle injury this season.

So, I am quite surprised that Chelsea are pushing ahead with a move for the 20-year-old. Perhaps, Graham Potter is convinced that the former Spurs man has the attributes to evolve into a top Premier League player.
