Conor Gallagher is in control of his own future

The report says that Chelsea are aware that Gallagher is now in the ‘box seat’ to decide his future since he has just a year left on his contract.

The Blues are said to be worried about the midfielder’s upcoming decision as he will be free to discuss and agree on a pre-contract agreement with foreign sides from January 2025.

Chelsea are said to be fearful that their academy graduate will turn down a move this summer and instead leave on a free transfer in 12 months. This would come as a ‘big blow’ to the West London club, particularly given their current PSR situation.

Tottenham and Aston Villa both like Conor Gallagher

The publication also backs up what we have heard from other sources over recent weeks by stating that Tottenham are ‘imminently’ expected to submit an offer for Gallagher.

Aston Villa and Atletico Madrid are also thought to be hot on the 24-year-old’s trail ahead of the opening of the summer transfer window in three days.

It becomes a question of where Gallagher himself would rather go and whether he wants to leave for a fee this summer or on a free next year.

Spurs Web Opinion

I think Chelsea might resort to threatening to bench Gallagher throughout next season if he refuses to leave and I do think the midfielder would accept a move if the club make it clear that he has no future in West London.

I would expect Ange Postecoglou to be able to convince the England international that he would thrive in his system at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

One sticking point could be the fact that Gallagher is known to be a boyhood Chelsea fan and has a close relationship with the supporters, whether he would want to jeopardise that by moving to their biggest rivals remains to be seen.

With Gallagher now fully focused on England’s Euro 2024 campaign in Germany, it’s likely that nothing concrete will happen until after the conclusion of the tournament.
