Report: Chelsea have submitted cash-plus-player offer for Zaniolo amid Spurs links

CalcioMercatoWeb have claimed that Chelsea’s offer for rumoured Tottenham target Nicolo Zaniolo has been turned down by AS Roma.

Over the last few weeks, Tottenham have been heavily linked with a move for Zaniolo, with reports indicating that Antonio Conte is ‘crazy’ about signing the 23-year-old (CalcioMercato).

However, over the last couple of days, it has emerged that Spurs are likely to miss out on the winger.

Corriere dello Sport revealed on Wednesday that Jose Mourinho had convinced the Italy international to remain at the Stadio Olimpico for one more season while The Evening Standard claimed on Thursday that Roma had ‘cooled their interest’ in selling the player.

If CalcioMercatoWeb’s latest update is to be believed, Chelsea have also entered the race for Zaniolo’s signature.

The report claims Thomas Tuchel’s men offered cash plus Christian Pulisic to Roma in exchange for the winger but the Giallorossi ‘responded with a firm no’ to the Blues’ proposal.

Spurs Web Opinion

Despite reports indicating that Roma want to hang on to Zaniolo, I suspect that the Serie A club will sell the 23-year-old if they receive a sizable offer before the transfer window closes.

However, Chelsea might be more likely to offer £50m-plus for the Roma star than Tottenham, given that Tuchel’s men are in more desperate need of attacking reinforcements.
