Report: Chelsea hold talks over midfielder who agreed to sign for Spurs last summer

Spanish publication Sport report that Chelsea have opened talks with Barcelona about over a possible deal for Philippe Coutinho, who is also said to be interesting Tottenham.

Coutinho, who is currently on a season-long loan at Bayern Munich, is reportedly in the shop window this summer (Express) after the Bundesliga side decided not to take up the option to sign him on a permanent basis.

Coutinho was linked heavily with a move to Spurs last summer before he made the move to Bayern (Mirror).

The Brazilian reportedly agreed to sign for Tottenham last summer before the agreement between the North Londoners and Barcelona is said to have collapsed (Sport via Sport Witness).

However, it looks like Chelsea have stolen a march on their London rivals with Sport reporting that the Blues have already held talks with Coutinho’s representatives about a move to Stamford Bridge.

The report asserts that Frank Lampard’s side will have to pay around £28million (€30m) to sign the former Reds star on a season-long loan.

Spurs Web Opinion

I really wanted us to sign Coutinho last summer but he has hardly pulled up trees in the Bundesliga this season. While he could still be a valuable addition to the squad, we are fairly well stocked in attacking midfield areas at the moment. So, I don’t think this is a transfer we are likely to prioritise this summer.
